Riel (KHR) is the legal currency of Cambodia
The smallest denomination of Cambodian riel in circulation is 100 and the largest denomination is 200,000.
The more commonly used denominations are 1,000, 2,000, 5,000, 10,000, 20,000, etc.
1. Exchange rate:
1 yuan ≈ 550 riel

2. The use of US dollars in Cambodia
The US dollar is widely accepted in Cambodia, especially in cities and tourist areas.
It is not necessary to exchange riels before going abroad, but you must exchange US dollars in advance.
(1) Large denomination US dollars (denomination 100/50)
Hotel accommodation (credit cards are also accepted), car expenses, and the purchase of Siem Reap and Angkor tickets.
(2) Intermediate denomination US dollars (denomination 10/20)
Including tuk-tuk fares, bulk shopping, meals, bus fares between cities, Phnom Penh attraction tickets, Angkor attraction tickets, Tonle Sap Lake boat fares, etc.
(3) Small denomination US dollars (denomination 1/2/5)
Temporary taxi fares, tips, small purchases.
III. Payment methods in Cambodia
(1) Cash
You can choose to pay in US dollars or riels for cash transactions.
(2) Electronic payment
Bakong is Cambodia’s national payment gateway that supports transactions in riels and US dollars.
Some places support Alipay/WeChat payment.
(3) UnionPay/Credit Card
More than 80% of merchants and ATMs in Cambodia accept UnionPay cards.
Many stores, hotels, restaurants and shopping malls in cities such as Phnom Penh and Siem Reap accept credit card payments.
Note: Credit card fraud is a serious problem in Southeast Asia (including online bookings). If fraud occurs, please contact the issuing bank immediately.
